We will take the next 40 days to discover the promises of the gospel given through the some of the Old Testament prophets. Take time to pray before you read, why not get a notebook and journal your thoughts and what God might be saying to you. Ask what changes the passage demands of us in terms of our relationship with God and one another. Here are some key questions you might want to answer in your journal.
- What does this passage teach me about God’s character and nature
- What does this passage teach me about humanity and myself
- What is God revealing about his presence and work in my life right now

Let’s Pray
Yet again our news is filled with devastating loss of life across the world. Tower block fires in Hong Kong, flooding in Southeast Asia and a cyclone in Sri Lanka. The scale of these tragedies is hard for us to comprehend and understand. The distance between our home and the homes of those affected makes compassion fleeting at best. Take time to pray for all who have been affected, pray for the emergency and humanitarian responses, but pray also that God would awaken in us a spirit of concern and care for distant brothers and sisters.
Locally families continue to struggle to make ends meet and Christmas only adds to those pressures and worries. Pray for local families and the pressures they live with, pressures often hidden and often endured with little in the way of help, and often without a cry for help. Pray for our Kirk Session as they seek to find meaningful ways to serve our community and proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ.
