We will take the next 40 days to discover the promises of the gospel given through the some of the Old Testament prophets. Take time to pray before you read, why not get a notebook and journal your thoughts and what God might be saying to you. Ask what changes the passage demands of us in terms of our relationship with God and one another. Here are some key questions you might want to answer in your journal.
- What does this passage teach me about God’s character and nature
- What does this passage teach me about humanity and myself
- What is God revealing about his presence and work in my life right now

Let’s Pray
Take time this week to pray the Lord’s prayer.
Our Father hallowed be your name… Lord at a time when it is the church bringing your name into disrepute; your church is the one tarnishing the holiness of your name, we pray that you would show your holiness, your glory and your majesty. We pray that you would reveal your nature and majesty. Forgive us Lord for how we have tarnished your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. For those who have been hurt by your church we pray for a very real sense of your presence, your will being accomplished in their lives. We thank you that your will is good, your plans are to prosper and not to hurt. So, we pray for all who hurt today that they would know your goodness in their lives. Give us this day our daily bread. We live in what seems to be unprecedented days; globally, locally and in the church. Teach us Lord to look to you and find our strength for each day, to face the worry of each day, the shock of each day by relying upon you. Draw us closer to you through these unprecedented days. Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. We know who we are, we know how much we need to be forgiven, we know what society is like, we know the injustice of our world, and it seems we are also being shown what we as a church are like also. Forgive us Lord, but more than that, show us just how much we have been forgiven that we would in turn freely forgive. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Lord, may we learn the lessons of our sinfulness, may we learn the lessons of repentance that we would not repeat the same mistakes over and over again. Grant us your sustaining spirit that we would follow you away from temptation realising that yours is the kingdom, the power and the glory, forever and ever, amen.
